Alternative Provision and Music in School

Over the last year, we have worked with several alternative provision settings and schools, developing bespoke music programmes designed around the needs, interests and abilities of the young people we work with.

Our approach is flexible and practical. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, we develop music programmes that engage young people and give them the opportunity to learn through doing — whether that is songwriting, recording, performing, music production or simply finding a positive way to express themselves.

Working with other charities and groups

We have a fantastic relationship with fellow charity Coping with Chaos, who regularly bring their wonderfully chaotic and energetic groups of young people into the studios at Absolute Music during school holidays.

These sessions are always dynamic, creative and full of life. Young people, carers, families and facilitators come together to experience the joy of making music in a professional studio environment.

There are usually plenty of smiles, plenty of noise and, most importantly, plenty of opportunities for young people to discover what they can do.

Music, Creativity and Living with Duchenne

We provide weekly support and guidance to a talented young man living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

His ambition is simple: to write and record his own songs and get out to see live music. We are proud to help him pursue those ambitions, developing his songwriting, recording and production skills and giving him the opportunity to express himself through music.

Living with a life-limiting condition can place enormous restrictions on what someone is able to do. Our role is to focus on what is possible — helping him create, achieve, enjoy music and pursue the things that matter to him.
